It’s tradition that every September we pick one Saturday for our family to go apple picking. We just love walking around the fields, smelling the aromas from the earth, and exploring all that the apple orchards have to offer! When we get home, we always bake this family apple pie recipe. The smell of cinnamon throughout the house is the best!
My husband and I typically peel the apples, and the kids carefully slice them. We do not make the crust from scratch, so feel free to purchase one at the store like we do.

Apple Pie
Ingredients
- 1 pack Store Bought Pie Crust
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
- 3 tbsp All-Purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup Water just a little less than
- 1/2 cup White Sugar
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar packed
- 1/4 tbsp Cinnamon optional
- 1/4 tbsp Ground Clove optional
- 8 Granny Smith Apples peeled, cored, and sliced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan on medium low heat as a start. Stir in flour to form a paste.
- Add water, white sugar and brown sugar and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer.
- Add cinnamon and ground clove. Stir constantly so all the ingredients combine well.
- Place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples, mounded slightly. You could either: 1. Cover with a lattice crust and gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly so that it does not run off. 2. OR you could just fill the crust with the apples and slightly poor the sugar – butter liquid over the apples and top with a crust. Make 4 cuts on top.
- Butter the crust on top before putting it in the oven so that it does not burn/dry out.
- Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F. Continue baking for about 40 to 45 minutes or until apples are soft.

Personally I prefer to use aluminum foil under the pie pan so that if the sugar liquid overflows, it will make the clean-up much easier.
