Melomakarona (Honey Christmas Cookies)
Ingredients
Cookie Ingredients:
- 2 cups Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1 cup Orange Juice
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Clove in Powder
- 7 cups Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 cup Walnuts crushed
Syrup Ingredients:
- 2 cups Honey
- 2 cups Sugar
- 2 cups Water
- Cinnamon Stick whole gloves
Instructions
- Mix the first 5 ingredients together.
- In a separate bowl, mix the flour and baking soda. Gradually add these dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, and mix together.
- Shape the mixture into small cookies, and bake for about 30-35 minutes at 325F.
- For the syrup – mix the ingredients together in a sauce pan, and bring it to a boil for 5 minutes.*Note – Be careful not to boil too much, or it will overflow. If this happens, you will have to make a new batch of syrup
- Set aside the syrup mixture until it has completely cooled to room temperature.
- Once the cookies have finished baking, pull them out of the oven and dip them in the syrup right away while they are still hot. This is the best way for the cookies to soak up the syrup.
- Plate and serve.

- Cinnamon stick, whole gloves
