No time to cook? Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken is an easy, delicious solution. The chicken is rubbed with spices and flavored with your favorite sauce. Super affordable, and very easy to make for busy weeknight dinners, or even for your favorite dinner guests!
To make ahead to freeze, simply prepare the ingredients in a gallon freezer bag, label, and store in the freezer. To serve, thaw the bag in the refrigerator overnight; then dump contents into your slow cooker and follow the directions below.

Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken
Equipment
- slow cooker
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Brown Sugar
- 1 tbsp Sweet Paprika
- 1 tsp Dry Mustard
- 1 tsp Ground Cumin
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Pepper
- 4 lbs Chicken bone-in, skin-on (drumsticks or thighs work well)
- 1 cup BBQ Sauce
Instructions
- Mix sugar, paprika, mustard, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper together in a small bowl. Rub the mixture evenly over chicken pieces.
- Transfer chicken to the slow cooker. Pour barbecue sauce over the chicken and toss to coat.
- Cover and cook until chicken is tender, 4-6 hours on low.
- OPTIONAL: For crispy skin, transfer chicken to a foil-lined baking pan. Brush additional barbecue sauce over the chicken and broil approximately 5 minutes per side, until lightly charred and crisp.
