Something seems to happen in our 30’s… our bodies start doing weird things, which forces us to tune in and actually listen to our bodies. This process of recognizing patterns and looking for solutions can be great for advocating for yourself and finding ways to optimize your physical and mental health! Instead of powering through and trying to cope with some of the things that were bothering me, I took a different approach… I started treating myself like a research project and ended up with a daily self care routine that is keeping me happy and healthy in my 30’s!
Nighttime Self Care Routine
I now have a regular nighttime routine where I take my supplements and care for my body so that I am able to wake up each morning ready to tackle the next day. Since each day looks a little different in my life, getting into the habit of doing this daily self care routine at night has allowed me to be more consistent than trying to remember to do these things during the day.

Before I dive into my nightly self care routine, I want to put in a disclaimer that this is what is working for me right now. I am not a medical professional. I am not an expert. I have simply worked through a process of trial and error with my own body and have figured out a few things that have had a significant positive impact on my physical and mental health! While I’m happy to share my tips with you, please keep in mind that your needs could be substantially different, and you should never start taking something new without checking in with your medical professional.

Magnesium Supplements for Sleep
I started taking a magnesium supplement because I read that it could be good for preventing headaches and migraines. And while I am not sure how effective it has been for that particular struggle, it has definitely seemed to help in other ways!
I always thought that I slept relatively well. I could fall asleep quickly, and I stayed asleep throughout the night for the most part. I would wake up really tired each morning, but I just figured that was normal (especially when you have a kid still struggling with sleep too).
But once I started taking magnesium, I noticed a significant shift! All of my dreams and nightmares that I thought were normal pretty much disappeared completely. I wasn’t tossing and turning in the middle of the night. I was even waking up easier each morning.
It was such a reminder that just because something is your normal doesn’t mean that it is normal.
If I ever forget to take magnesium before bed, I notice that I have a much worse night of sleep. I wake up in that half-awake state a few times throughout the night. I feel more restless. And I tend to have a lot of crazy dreams. Which then of course means that I wake up cranky and groggy.
I buy my magnesium supplements from my local stores and take the amount recommended on the bottle.

I decided to also explore other natural supplements to incorporate into my self-care routine and discovered real mushrooms organic supplements. Taking Reishi mushroom extract before bedtime will give you the best sleep ever, helping you wake up less anxious but calm and refreshed. Including mushroom-based health supplements in my daily regimen has made me more aware of the importance of using pure ingredients to support my well-being.
Halo Beauty – Hair, Skin, and Nails Supplement
Losing My Hair in My 30’s
I went through a scary few months where I was losing a ton of hair. It got to the point where I couldn’t wear my hair down because I had a bald spot on the top of my head. I was grateful that I had so much thick, curly hair to start that not many people could tell; but I could tell… and it was terrifying. I went to doctor after doctor and did all sorts of bloodwork. Each one told me that everything looked fine, and that I seemed healthy. But I wasn’t ready to give up my head full of curls so I kept looking for possible solutions.
Brittle Nails in My 30’s
During this time, I was also having significant issues with my nails. My nails were breaking painfully even when I kept them trimmed short. They were peeling, thin, and extremely brittle. Again, while the doctors brushed it off, I was very concerned at what these symptoms meant for my overall health… it couldn’t be a good sign.
Acne in My 30’s
While the acne seemed to be the least of my problems, it was still a concern and a frustration. I was getting horrible, underground zits under my chin. I also started getting acne on my back for the first time in my life! I bought all sorts of body washes and treatments that were supposed to help, but none of them were preventative.
Taking Daily Supplements
As you can imagine, my self-esteem took a hit during this time. I didn’t feel my best – I didn’t look my best. And I was worried that it was just going to get worse! Out of desperation, I started researching all sorts of different supplements and potential causes for my symptoms. I spent so much money on so many different supplements. Some upset my stomach. Some didn’t seem to have much of an effect. Some seemed too risky to take long-term. But after finding a few things that did seem to help, I was thrilled to find an even better solution…
Halo Beauty by Tati
Around this time, I had also discovered Tati and her makeup videos. I would watch her videos to fall asleep, and I loved her makeup recommendations. And when she released her beauty supplements, I was excited to look into it further and see if it might help me!
Hair Skin and Nails Supplement
She released a Hair, Skin, and Nails Booster that is a daily supplement meant to support those three areas. Many of the ingredients included in this particular supplement were things that I was already buying and taking separately, but it wasn’t ideal… I was taking so many pills each day that it was becoming overwhelming. I wasn’t sure how some of the things I was taking were interacting with each other. And I had bought some of the supplements from Amazon, which always worried me a bit because I didn’t have a ton of trust in where those ingredients were actually coming from.
As I looked more into this Halo Beauty supplement, I was pleasantly surprised to find just how much care and research went into this product (check out Tati’s video about it here).
But what was even more exciting was that the product worked!!!
My hair stopped falling out and became healthier again. My nails stopped breaking and peeling and became thicker. My back acne completely went away, and while I still get occasional face breakouts, they clear up much more quickly. My skin and hair overall feels healthier and more hydrated, and I have been so so relieved to find something that has worked so well for me!

Metamucil Pills for Stomach Pain
Before you keep scrolling, hear me out! I had a whole bunch of assumptions about Metamucil and fiber in general, and I didn’t ever consider that it could be helpful for me. I also only thought of Metamucil as the thing with the really gross name and the really gross powder that you had to try to drink.
But I was listening to a comedy podcast the one day, and they were joking about how their stomachs couldn’t handle much of anything anymore. Then the guest on the show shared how he started taking Metamucil pills each night, and that it was life-changing.
Considering I had woken up each morning with stomach pain for as long as I could remember, I figured it was worth a try, and I have been shocked with how well it’s worked!
I only take two pills each night, and I don’t spend the first few hours of each day with a stomach-ache! The bottle recommends that you take a crazy amount of pills multiple times a day, but I haven’t needed to do that. Hopefully you can figure out a dosage that works best for you.
And as another quick stomach tip… I have also found probiotics to be very helpful from time to time! They are a must-have for when I’m taking antibiotics, but they also seem to be very helpful if my stomach is just feeling off, or if I’m recovering from some sort of illness.

Liquid IV to Reduce Headaches
I never drink enough water. I don’t have a particular excuse for it, and I know it’s an issue… but I still just never drink enough water. I also would get headaches almost daily. There are a million different potential triggers for these headaches and migraines, but I was always aware that hydration could be a factor.
When I heard about Liquid IV, I was excited to try it!
The company states that one packet of this powder mixed with a bottle of water can provide the same hydration as drinking two to three bottles of water. It is said to utilize the science of Cellular Transport Technology to hydrate you more efficiently than water alone.
And while I am not well-versed in the science behind this technology, I can speak from personal experience. Drinking a bottle of water with a Liquid IV packet in it each day has significantly reduced my headaches!
I mix up a bottle of Liquid IV each evening and drink the whole thing before I go to sleep that night, and it really does seem to be working well for me. I highly recommend the lemon-lime flavor (I am not a fan of fruit punch), and I’d recommend adding ice to make it taste better too.

Another innovative solution that can be incorporated into a self-care routine is IV therapy in Newport Beach. This potent method delivers essential nutrients directly to the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system, and can provide immediate benefits like increased energy, improved immunity, and enhanced overall well-being.
Heating Pad and Tennis Ball for Back Pain
Between 15 years of gymnastics and a family history of back and neck problems, it is no surprise that my neck, back and shoulders lock up fairly regularly. I used to pay hundreds of dollars to get deep tissue massages or go to chiropractors, but then I started to learn effective ways for managing things at home.
Heating Pad for Back and Neck Pain
Most nights I lay on my heating pad for a while as a preventative measure. I apply it to my neck, upper back, and lower back in increments of time while I watch TV and wind down for the night. This regular maintenance helps keep my muscles from tightening up too much and has reduced the amount of mornings I wake up with a severe neck ache (that inevitably leads to a severe headache)
Tennis Ball for Back Pain
While the heating pad is helpful for preventing problems, the tennis ball has become my best friend for pinpointing trouble spots!
I tend to get horrible knots along my shoulder blades. I would wait until it’d get unbearable, and then I’d schedule a deep tissue massage to work on the problem areas. At one of these appointments, the masseuse actually recommended that I use a tennis ball to work on the knots before they got so bad. And what do you know… it works!
Sometimes it is the simplest tips that work the best, and this one has been a game-changer for me. I simply lay on a tennis ball and apply direct pressure to each knot. I am able to pinpoint them exactly and apply as much pressure as I can handle until I am able to melt away that knot.

Favorite Lotion to Soften Feet
Dry, peely, rough feet… it is so common, but that doesn’t make it any less annoying! There are tons and tons of products on the market that claim to give you soft feet, and I have tried many of them. But the only thing that has worked like a charm is a lotion that isn’t marketed specifically for feet!
Vaseline Intensive Care Essential Healing. You’re welcome.
This stuff is so cost-effective and works so amazingly well! It doesn’t make your feet greasy and slippery. It doesn’t make all of your skin peel off. It just works beautifully.
I apply this lotion to my feet after I get out of the shower and sometimes at night before bed. You can wear socks after application if you want to, but you really don’t have to! You will start to notice the difference fairly quickly, but when you use it consistently it is magical.

Product to Prevent Chapped Lips
So many products on the market actually seem to make my lips feel worse than before I put them on. Those eos lip balms that have been so popular? Ouch! They smell good, and they look cute; but they dry out my lips.
I’ve had the best luck just sticking to the traditional Chapstick brand, and I recently found one of their products that I have fallen in love with!
Chapstick Total Hydration Night Serum is so soothing. I apply it right before bed, and it keeps my lips feeling hydrated and healthy. It’s such a small thing, but chapped lips can be downright painful and unsightly!

Figuring out your own daily self care routine
Seeing all of this written down, it seems like a lot! But in reality, my daily self care routine only takes me a little bit of time each night. I drink my Liquid IV and lay on my heating pad while watching TV, I put on lotion and chapstick, and I take a few pills.
And while the products that I mention throughout this article might not be the right fit for you, I hope you see the bigger takeaway! I want to inspire you to take your own health seriously. I want you to be your own biggest advocate and try to find things that will have a substantial positive impact on your life! We don’t have to struggle through each day… we can make things better for ourselves – one step at a time.
